KANPUR: Unlike past years, father’s day was an overall different affair this time. The sale of greeting cards, bouquets and traditional gifts, such as electronic gadgets, dropped drastically, but the eternal bond between father and son strengthened by means of yoga on Sunday. Several children were seen accompanying their fathers to different yoga camps that were held on the occasion of International Yoga Day on Sunday.
Children, who were usually seen busy buying gifts and other confectionery items for their dads, took initiative of making it a healthy affair this year. Swapnil, a college student, said that since his father is diabetic, he wanted to gift him a secret of good health this time. “My dad has recently developed diabetes, so I decided not to treat him with cake or pizza which we usually do. Instead, taking full advantage of International Yoga Day that fell on the same day, I took him to a yoga camp at Motijheel where both of us did different asanas together. My dad was happy and relaxed throughout the day,” he said.
With International Yoga Day clashing with Father’s day this year, the city kids made the optimum use of it. The health conscious teenagers took the initiative to make the day special for their loving dads in a completely new and healthy way. For Dinesh Rai, a father of two, his kids, accompanying him to the yoga camp held at CSA university ground, was the best gift he has got till now. “I continuously stress upon exercising and getting up early each day. But, my kids never used to listen to me. Both of them are on their summer break so they sleep for late hours in the morning. But, surprisingly both of them woke up up early on Sunday and got ready before me. They attended the yoga camp and promised to wake up early every day till their summer vacations are over. It was the best gift I got from my children on father’s day,” said Rai, while practising Pranayam at the CSA ground.
While the grown up children made their dad’s special day a very special by practising yoga with them, the first time dads of tiny tots too had a blast on the occasion. “This is my second father’s day after my son Daksh was born last year. Since, the kid is very young, my wife gave me a big surprise on his behalf. She bought a super-dad cake for me, a huge bunch of zarbera flowers and tried every recipe of my choice to make the day special for me. It was an inexpressible feeling to become a dad. One day dedicated to dads make you completely special,” said Vaibhav Gupta, an architect.
